Your Spirit & Your Heart:

Week 7: Outward Flow

Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts! And see if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting! -Psalm 139:23-24   A Psalm of David.

This week’s blessing:

From previous classes:

Behold, you delight in truth in the inward being, and you teach me wisdom in the secret heart. . . .

Create in me a clean heart, O God…

Psalm 51:6, 10

NEW TOOL:

Home Base

Ask your spirit to help you use your imagination to create a mental picture of you having a meeting with one (or more) of the members of the Trinity. (Example: mine is meeting Jesus for a cup of tea, at a nicely laid tea table.)

Use your design. Make it something that is emotionally lovely for you.

Over the weeks (months), spend time “loading up” this image, like you load up a battery. The more details you can imagine, the more your brain will help you make it memorable. (I could imagine what colors the teapot & tablecloth are, the surrounding garden or room, what kinds of lovely foods are on the table, etc.)

This will become a “spiritual locator” for your heart & its GPS system. When you are emotionally troubled, you can picture this place, ask the Lord to meet you there, and your heart will be able (with the help of your brain) to recognize that the Lord actually is there with you, at that very moment. This is a way of investing into spiritual realities that your brain & heart are designed to help you identify & locate.

Your heart is designed to receive the flow of the wisdom and love of God. Continue to ask the Lord & your spirit to help the flow of your own heart to be submerged and cleansed by the flow of God’s heart. Ask for God’s anchored truth to flow through you as the outward expression of righteous truth through the perspective of God, as Love.

So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him. By this is love perfected with us, so that we may have confidence for the day of judgment, because as he is so also are we in this world. There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love. We love because he first loved us.  - I John 4:16-19

“O righteous Father, even though the world does not know You, I know You, and these know that You have sent Me.  I made known to them Your name, and I will continue to make it known, that the love with which You have loved Me may be in them, and I in them.”
